One thing I hear constantly is:

"How long does buying a house actually take?"

The answer depends on the buyer, the market, and the property.

However, most St. Louis home purchases follow a similar timeline.

Step 1: Pre-Approval

This usually takes a few days and provides clarity on budget and financing.

Step 2: Home Search

Some buyers find a home in a weekend.

Others take several months.

Both are completely normal.

Step 3: Offer and Negotiation

Once the right home is found, negotiations typically happen quickly.

Step 4: Inspections

This stage helps buyers understand the condition of the property and negotiate repairs if necessary.

Step 5: Appraisal and Loan Approval

The lender verifies value and final loan qualifications.

Step 6: Closing

Documents are signed, funds are transferred, and ownership changes hands.

For most buyers in St. Louis, the contract-to-close portion takes approximately 30–45 days.

The biggest factor in reducing stress isn't speed.

It's understanding what comes next.

That's why I spend so much time educating buyers before we ever start looking at homes.

When buyers understand the process, they make better decisions and enjoy the journey much more.
